Musical Monday: Like I’m Gonna Lose You

I had lunch today with a friend who has been married to his wife for 43 years. They’re dealing with health challenges, but he was quick to point out how sticking to each other through thick and thin is the only way they’d get through it.

I think it’s amazing that they’ve had such a long, happy marriage. It’s something that I really admire because these days, people seem to be divorcing left and right. I guess I honestly admire when anyone can sustain a relationship over decades, whether it be romantic, platonic or family.

Like I'm Gonna Lose You [Musical Monday at High-Heeled Love]

And even when things are good, you don’t know when someone might be taken from you.

If you’re new around High-Heeled Love, then you don’t know that we lost my mom when I was only a teenager, and she’s been crossing my mind a lot these days.

I wonder what she might think about our goals to get some land out in the country. I wonder what advice she’d give me about running my business. I miss her when I run into the challenges of being an adult or when we hit a bump in our marriage. Somehow, I know she’d have the right words to say.

And while I’m thankful that I have an amazing step-mother and mother-in-law (and they are wonderful and very good to me), I just miss my mom.

So my challenge to you this week is take a few minutes to appreciate those people in your life who are easy to take for granted because they are just there…and then tell them how special they are to you.
