Musical Monday: Like a Rose

A couple months ago on Musical Monday, I shared a song by the Pistol Annies, which is a country group comprised of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angeleena Pressley. Last week, their fan page announced that Ashley Monroe has released her first album, Like a Rose.

The album has a low-key, classic Americana. I love a couple of the tracks, including the title track, “Like a Rose,” which Ashley says mostly based on true story.

I love this song because it reminds me that just because crappy things may happen to us in life, they don’t determine our happiness or success as adults, which is something I can really relate to.

Aside from working with the likes of Miranda Lambert, you’ll hear Vince Gill playing on guitar, and she co-wrote songs with Guy Sullivan.

You may also recognize her in the video for “Bruises” by Train, with whom she’s on tour this year. I’d love to see them, but they play Charlotte on a Tuesday night. Not so good when you have a 6:30 a.m. breakfast meeting on Wednesday.

I think I’ve found my latest girl crush.
