I confess…

I am often amazed that I don’t walk around with a perpetual concussion, considering how often I hit my head on things. This past week it was beams at the dojo, as we were moving mats to the upper level of the building.

Seriously, I give new meaning to the words “hard-headed,” though I’m known for being pretty darn stubborn as well.

I confess…

Seeing this memorial for my high school classmate Staff Sgt. TJ Dudley makes me happy and sad at the same time. We lost TJ way too soon; he was truly a gem.

I confess…

Our annual jujitsu clinic started yesterday, so I expect to be sore from working out (in a good way) and sleep really well this weekend. Bonus though, one of our sensei’s students who runs the a dojo in Chicago has already volunteered to give me a massage. Have I mentioned how also it is that we learn a healing art alongside a martial art?

I confess…

Aside from getting to see jujitsu family from all over the country, we’re fortunate to learn from world-renowned instructors. Two of our special guest instructors this year:

Matsushita Sensei, who was featured in the 1978 documentary Budo. Art of Killing; I got to meet him at our National Convention last year. (Affiliate Link)
