I confess…

I am often amazed that I don’t walk around with a perpetual concussion, considering how often I hit my head on things. This past week it was beams at the dojo, as we were moving mats to the upper level of the building.

Seriously, I give new meaning to the words “hard-headed,” though I’m known for being pretty darn stubborn as well.

Seeing this memorial for my high school classmate Staff Sgt. TJ Dudley makes me happy and sad at the same time. We lost TJ way too soon; he was truly a gem.

Our annual jujitsu clinic started yesterday, so I expect to be sore from working out (in a good way) and sleep really well this weekend. Bonus though, one of our sensei’s students who runs the a dojo in Chicago has already volunteered to give me a massage. Have I mentioned how also it is that we learn a healing art alongside a martial art?

Aside from getting to see jujitsu family from all over the country, we’re fortunate to learn from world-renowned instructors. Two of our special guest instructors this year:
